Knife Sharpening

Maintaining a good sharp edge on your cutting tools helps them to work better and safer than a dull, rough, or chipped cutting edge. We utilize a commercial-grade water-cooled sharpening system to provide your blade with like-new sharpness while minimizing the material removal and reducing the heat generation that could otherwise weaken the tool.  We simply charge $7 for a 5-inch blade or smaller and $10 for a larger blade up to 12 inches. If you are searching for experienced knife sharpening in the San Antonio, TX region, end your search with Buck & Doe’s Mercantile. Stop in today for detailed and efficient service!

Signs That You Need Knife Sharpening Services

Buck and Doe’s offers professional knife sharpening services to clients throughout the San Antonio area. Our goal is to keep your knife in excellent condition so it’s always ready when you need it. Recognizing when it’s time to sharpen your knife is crucial to keep it working safely and effectively. Here are some signs to look out for:

  • Difficulty Cutting: If your knife struggles to slice through items that it used to handle easily, it’s likely time for a sharpening session. A sharp knife should make clean cuts without requiring excessive force – even through softer materials.
    ● Visible Dullness: Inspect your knife’s blade under a light. If you notice the edge is reflecting light, this is a sign that it’s becoming too dull. A properly sharpened knife edge will not reflect light because it is finely honed to a point.
  • The Paper Test: This is a simple and effective method to test your knife’s sharpness. Hold a piece of paper upright and try to slice it with the knife. If the knife fails to cut smoothly and instead tears the paper or can’t make a cut at all, it needs to be sharpened.
  • Increased Pressure: Pay attention to the amount of pressure you need to apply in order to cut anything with your knife. If you find yourself pressing down harder than usual to make cuts, this is a sign that the knife is becoming too dull.
  • Edge Irregularities: Carefully, to avoid cutting yourself, feel the edge of the blade with your fingertips. If you can feel nicks or detect blemishes or unevenness along the edge, it’s time to visit our knife sharpening professionals.
  • Accidents & Slippage: A dull knife is more prone to slipping off the surface of what you’re cutting, which can increase the risk of injury. If you notice your knife beginning to slip more frequently, it’s important to act quickly.

Regular maintenance and proper knife sharpening services will keep your knives performing well and extend their lifespan, making them safer and more enjoyable to use. The team at Buck and Doe’s offers professional knife sharpening services using leading industry tools for your peace of mind. Contact us today to learn more about our services!

A Few Words from our Clients

A friend and I visited the range for the first time yesterday, and you know as soon as you walk in the door that this is a quality operation. The place was immaculate, the staff knowledgeable and friendly, and there was a great selection of firearms and accessories. We had a great time shooting on the well-lit range with excellent ventilation. The value for the dollar is great, and it’s is without a doubt the finest range and retail operation of its kind I’ve ever visited. There’s no doubt this will be our go-to range from now on!

Amazing experience with Mr Ron private lesson, he made me feel comfortable confidence and sure of myself, I highly recommend anyone wanting to educate themselves with good knowledge of handling a weapon to pick up the phone and call them you are not going to be sorry, this is my first try I will be back.

– Sandra Gallardo

Took my LTC class with instructor Ron Benton. I honestly thought it would be a boring class, falling asleep, etc. Boy, was I wrong! Very informative, laid back, cracking jokes. I really enjoyed myself. I will recommend everyone I know to come take his class because I know they will have a great experience as I did. Thank you Ron.

Disappointed I didn’t come here sooner! Great place and experience. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Ron Benton was my instructor and he was professional, courtesy, knowledgeable and friendly. Atmosphere wasn’t super uptight or stiff but safety was addressed first and foremost. Plan on coming back real soon!

– Cuong Nguyen
